Licensing procedure

Anyone wishing to offer casino games in Switzerland must have a licence. This licence permits casino games to be played within the casino. The Federal Council determines the number of licences available and grants them for a period of 20 years.

In 2023, the Federal Council awarded new licences for the period from 1 January 2025 until 2044. The following casinos are currently licensed to operate in Switzerland:

Land-based casinos

Since 1 January 2019, casinos have been able to apply for an extension to their licence in order to offer online casino games. Applications for a licence extension must be submitted to the FGB. The Federal Council decides whether to grant the licence extension based on the FGB's recommendation. You can find out more about Swiss online casino games here:
